Art Bras:

The time has come for us to think about Breast Cancer Awareness month here at The Stash!  Last year we were part of the window decorating contest, and this year we will feature a silent auction of Artful Bras, made by our fabulous Fairbanks artists!  🙂  Is this something you are interested to participate in?  Please let us know, we are open to accepting Art Bras from you too!

What is an Art Bra you ask???
“An art bra is basically an artistically decorated bra; an embellished bra. Art bras are fun – they are popular items for artists to make for Breast Cancer fundraisers. What you do is take a regular bra – usually padded – and cover it with fabric or beads or paint – or all three plus whatever else comes to mind. Some art bras have a theme, some are serious, some are funny, some are just decorated and given a name.”  Ask the Crafter

Please contact us for more information, as well as to sign up!  We need to have a good picture of how many bras we will be working with.  This will be our featured medium for October First Friday, and BCDC of Fairbanks will be the recipients of our October Non-Profit.  All proceeds from the silent auction of these bras will be donated to them.

We are taking the shop to the 4th Annual Fairbanks Summer Kid Fair!  If you are out and about this Saturday, April 11th, stop by and see us.  We have all new summer classes that you can sign up for!  They are really cool & pretty exciting, and this will be their debut!  🙂  The Kid Fair will be open from 10-2 p.m. located in the Nordale Elementary gym.

Over 50 different local organizations

This is a ‘one-stop shop’ for Fairbanks families when it comes to summer activities for kids.  This community wide event showcases many children’s activities, classes and camps.  This will allow families to see what is available in the Greater Fairbanks Area for the upcoming summer.

Sign the kids up & purchase the needed supplies too!

So I just finished 2 great books back to back.  One was a good fiction called Wild Girl that Laura loaned me.  🙂  It was a great, fast read that was something totally separate from my life trials right now.  Before that I read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A year of food for life…  This one was the most ‘changing’ thus far, and although the premise is eating local, it has spurred the thoughts and aided in the creation for The Stash.  The Stash will be my own experiment, so to speak, of what kind of affects we can have on each other & our community with shopping local, making/giving handmade items, and supporting a community spurred by creative thoughts and like minds.

Back to books…

Conveniently the day I gave Laura her book back, I received another book in the mail!  A mysterious gift from a secret admirer?  (Thanks Mom!)  It was fate, yes I only have about 13 books on my bedside table waiting to be read, but Mom’s took the cake.  It is called Finding your own North Star: Claiming the life you were meant to live…  Yes it is a self help categorized lovey, but let’s face it.  Change is hard!  And WOW this one really hits the nail on the head around here.

So I am a 1/4 of the way through and it is VERY interesting.  The theory behind it is like having the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other.  How to struggle through decision making in order to get to the ultimate answer.  For me, I guess it would be nice to know that I am headed on the right path.

For the past 6+ months, Thane & I have been ‘going with our guts’ on the decisions we have been making.  This method seems to be working, although NOT bringing in the cash we once had.  Personally we are on the right track to DOING what makes us truly happy.

I will let you know how the book progresses!

frog-baby-quilt.jpgMy friend Bre and I are making 2 new quilts this month.  One is a new baby quilt with a frog theme from a book called Twosey-Foursey Quilts.  The other is a ‘big’ brother quilt and will be an I Spy theme, I drew up the pattern for that.  They are so fun and BRIGHT!

We met last week to officially get started.  I was inspired and came home and cut 25+ fabrics into 4-4″ squares.  Well today (second meeting) I found out I was a bit over zealous.  🙂  I only needed 15 fabrics.  So, guess someone will have to hurry up and have another baby so we can finish with the rest of the squares.  Ha!

My friend Laura also joined us, to help DIG through my HUGE fabric stash and help us pick the fabrics for the frogs.  I am so excited to actually get to use some of my stored material.  At this point, it looks like we will get both quilts done without purchasing any fabric!  That is unheard of for me.  🙂  Ask my husband…

Thought I would share the fabric choices thus far.  These are for the frogs and the blue is the water.  You can see in the photo of the pattern.  I totally forgot to take pictures of the I Spy quilt.  Maybe I can convince Bre to do that!  🙂

Sew on…

I Took The Handmade Pledge!
