What it’s like in here today…

Some days I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such lovely goodness.  Realizing how many artists we have creating the things for the store, makes me happy!  The energy that comes from these handmade items is good for the soul.

I do wonder how many people can ‘feel’ the difference in a handmade item vs. a random store bought item?  That might be a good survey sometime.  🙂

So I thought I would share some pictures of some of the items that caught my eye today.

Enjoy!  If you have questions or need to purchase something that you see, just let us know.  We are more than happy to help you out!

Thank you for supporting the Art of Handmade & Shopping Local!  There is nothing that will sustain a community longer than doing just that!

Can you smell that?

Yep, I think I can…

Smells a bit like spring, with a potential for summer here in Fairbanks…

nose1Sniff, sniff, sniff

Yep, that is what that is!

So what are WE going to do about it?  The Stash is having a sale, a May Sale!  Starting May 1st you will have to come and see for yourself what the artists are marking down.  We have been talking & chatting, walking the floor, looking at art, and these artists are bringing some prices down just for YOU!

Mark your calendars, as this stuff won’t last long.  🙂

Well, we worked like dogs this weekend…  And we got it, well at least 80% of the new shop up & going.  🙂

Friday was crazy!  The old shop was completely empty by 3 p.m. and all moved over to the new place.  Papa Stash (i.e. Russ) was a HUGE help here!  Not only did he move stuff, but then he set up our computer system too!  If you know me (Janie) then you know that stuff is way over my head…

Bre came to help & even brought her stroller to move some things over too, her and Katelynn (Robyn’s daughter) did wonders with their wheels.  🙂  Laura brought my dolly over on her lunch break!  Yep, anything with wheels was much appreciated.  Natasha (Robyn’s daughter) & Robyn stuffed boxes, Rachael, Janie, Jolie, Ali, Thane & Mike all moved things!

Here are some

of the progress of the day…

Saturday was much of the same…  Well, unpacking rather!  New (to us) cabinets came, backroom was made more kid friendly for all our little one’s.  Pizza party, unpacking, shifting of the shit from one place to another…  That really is what this felt like after a while.

Sunday, the day of hanging.  Not each other, but pictures.  🙂  Many of the things went UP on the walls on Sunday…  Photos, paintings, curtains, shelves, hooks, hangers, and all.  It is all melting together & starting to work out.  We still can’t believe how much more room we have in this new place.  It has even worked out to leave most of the carpet free & clear for all of Rachael’s yoga classes too!

Today I am covering the back of the desk that we are using for checking out customers.  Filling storage shelves in the backroom.

This week, I will get the base cabinets & countertops for the sewing center.  Re-working the brochures to be ready for First Friday & our Re-Grand Opening Friday night.

Whew…  It was a whirlwind, and I definitely need a NAP!

7 days and counting…

Somewhere this week Rachael & I both lost a day.  All day we were convinced it was actually Thursday.  Maybe that is denial at it’s finest.  Not sure.  Poor Laura had to correct us, as she is the only one on time & with the correct date.

I was so off today, that I even missed my parents Anniversary!  So by the time I was straight here in Alaska, it was way past time to call Oklahoma.  Note: call parents first thing in the morning.  🙂  Hopefully they will forgive me.

There are some nifty things coming in the store that I do know!  So far we have:

  • Plushy dolls
  • Fancy dolls
  • Linoleum prints
  • Watercolor paintings
  • Watercolor print cards
  • Handmade cards
  • Dog scarves
  • Covered journals
  • Gemstone necklaces
  • Felted pincushions

And soooo much more that is already there, and more that is on it’s way…

Fixtures are rolling in, so the room is taking shape a bit more too.  The next 7 days will be filled with moving/hauling/sorting/etc.

Thanks for following along on the journey!  I hope that if you are in town on Friday June 6th from 5-9 p.m. that you can take some time to stop by…

Many of you are requesting a ‘glimpse’ of The Stash…  So I have taken a few photos for you to see in ALL of it’s raw glory.  Mind you it is a shell & pretty rough right now!  🙂

Since I wrote last we have:

  • sorted through the left over shelving
  • removed nails from walls
  • windows & doors taped and ready for paint
  • paint colors selected (super fun!)
  • floor tile purchased & delivered

Whew!  I just spoke with Rachael, her wonderful husband Mike will be painting for us.  So looks like Friday night is date night with ladders & paint for inside and out!

Again I will take pictures as we go!
