Art Bras:

The time has come for us to think about Breast Cancer Awareness month here at The Stash!  Last year we were part of the window decorating contest, and this year we will feature a silent auction of Artful Bras, made by our fabulous Fairbanks artists!  🙂  Is this something you are interested to participate in?  Please let us know, we are open to accepting Art Bras from you too!

What is an Art Bra you ask???
“An art bra is basically an artistically decorated bra; an embellished bra. Art bras are fun – they are popular items for artists to make for Breast Cancer fundraisers. What you do is take a regular bra – usually padded – and cover it with fabric or beads or paint – or all three plus whatever else comes to mind. Some art bras have a theme, some are serious, some are funny, some are just decorated and given a name.”  Ask the Crafter

Please contact us for more information, as well as to sign up!  We need to have a good picture of how many bras we will be working with.  This will be our featured medium for October First Friday, and BCDC of Fairbanks will be the recipients of our October Non-Profit.  All proceeds from the silent auction of these bras will be donated to them.

noseSniff, Sniff, Sniff

Can you smell that?

Yep, I think I can…

Smells a bit like spring, with a potential for summer here in Fairbanks…

nose1Sniff, sniff, sniff

Yep, that is what that is!

So what are WE going to do about it?  The Stash is having a sale, a May Sale!  Starting May 1st you will have to come and see for yourself what the artists are marking down.  We have been talking & chatting, walking the floor, looking at art, and these artists are bringing some prices down just for YOU!

This is the out with winter & in with summer sale!

Mark your calendars, as this stuff won’t last long.  🙂

So after much pondering, wondering, thinking…  I am curious, for those that read our website, access it for class information etc.

Holy cow! Only 8 days left… We have been working hard to get the shop finished up, and it is looking so much better. I am describing it as ‘de-dumpifying’… Since it was a huge dump when we moved in. Hopefully our changes are helping!

We got the flooring done, and that was a job as each wall had tile that needed to be cut. Tomorrow we will put up the baseboard.

Today was the 2nd day of having consignors come in. 🙂 That was so cool to see all the nifty things coming through the store. I will take some photos once we un-box all their things. Beautiful glass jewelry, some amazing dolls, felted pincushions, watercolor paintings & cards. Whew… There were 10 artist that came through today, and more in the next few days.

Here are some pictures… The Mini-Stashettes, 4 out of the 8 between Rachael/Laura/Myself, have been good helpers, and the Mom’s are trying to not let them annoy us. 🙂 They like to sweep/swifter, tile, chase each other A LOT! In the front of the shop there is a long bench in the window that they all like to play on, and wave to people as they pass by.

Okay, so it was a Holiday weekend with beautiful weather & what did Rachael & I do?  Clean a gross floor & lay tile!  🙂  But in the end, I must say I am impressed!  It makes the space shape up and seem bigger just by having a continuous floor in there.

Rachael’s men, Mike & River, came by to check things out.  River got to work right away sticking screws into the peg board.  🙂

Laura has family in town, but she did tear herself away to come and help some too!  Then all the Stashette’s took a break and went to Sam’s!  Shopping was in order…  Got a new fridge, surveyed the cash registers and office supplies some.  Wow, we are really going to do this!

Many of you are requesting a ‘glimpse’ of The Stash…  So I have taken a few photos for you to see in ALL of it’s raw glory.  Mind you it is a shell & pretty rough right now!  🙂

Since I wrote last we have:

  • sorted through the left over shelving
  • removed nails from walls
  • windows & doors taped and ready for paint
  • paint colors selected (super fun!)
  • floor tile purchased & delivered

Whew!  I just spoke with Rachael, her wonderful husband Mike will be painting for us.  So looks like Friday night is date night with ladders & paint for inside and out!

Again I will take pictures as we go!

So today was the day…  The official day, that we made the ‘real’ deal and signed the contract for The Stash…

Woo Hoo… 🙂

Rachael & I met at 3:30 and walked through, met with the landlord, toured the rest of the building (lots of old Fairbanks history there!) and chose flooring & paint colors.

There is A LOT of work to be done in the next 2 weeks all gearing up to a June 6th Grand Opening!  Will we make it?  Of course, but not without some MAJOR work & renovating of this place.  I took photos the other day, so will get those downloaded for you to see soon.

Watch out Fairbanks!  Here we come…

The Stash Update…  And other life mysteries under our roof!

Yes, yes…  I am still around.  Am getting the hint from your emails that I haven’t written on my blog in a bit.  Or at least nothing of much importance!  🙂

Probably because things are crazy around here!  Okay, that term is nothing new for our house, BUT it has been ‘especially’ crazy lately.  A few things that have happened in no certain order:

  • Our house is in the process of selling. (Yippee!)
  • We have been searching for a new house to buy.
  • Bank took away 1/2 our financing because Thane is now self-employed.  Guess that makes us ‘risky’ or something… (@#$%^&* bleeping banks)
  • I quit my job a month ago.  (Sigh of relief!)
  • Thane quit his job a month ago.  (Sign of panic!)
  • Thane started his own business the same day…  (We have definitely gone crazy now!)
  • I am amazed at how many bills can STILL be coming in the mail from Ali’s concussion.
  • Thane is now ‘super-duper’ busy designing really cool homes for really neat clients!  (He is very happy too, another sigh of relief!)
  • We didn’t find a home to buy in our price range that wasn’t a dump.  (Frustrating)
  • We signed a lease on a small duplex to rent for a year, in the hills and with a gorgeous view of the Alaska Range.  Ahhh.  (That is a much needed sigh of relief!)
  • I am temporarily subbing for a secretary at my daughter’s elementary school!  (SOOOO much fun to see all the kids again & eat lunch with Jolie every day.)
  • We have about 4-6 weeks to move.  (Yeah!)
  • Thane is beginning to enjoy architecture again! 🙂
  • The Stash – on a mini-pause until Thane gets off the ground and we move.
  • Sewing stuff: I am finishing a baby quilt, wall hanging for fellowship, Round Robin quilt block, and a surprise for Laura…  🙂  Then it is high overdrive to be ready for Farmers Market.
  • It was 50+ degrees here, and the girls are playing outside with rubber boots!  Spring has sprung…
  • Girls tried to catch a butterfly today, but it was only yesterday we got 2 inches of snow????  What is that about?

Okay now those were only the things that I could come up with off the cuff.  I am sure that I am missing something major and many things that are minor…  But I think you get the picture…

Will try to be better about writing on a more regular basis!

Here is another new term for you chew on!  🙂

An article highlight:

Modern women pride themselves on being able to juggle a career and a family while still looking good.  But the drive to have it all has started to take its toll, according to experts.  The UK’s Daily Mail reports that a new type of eating disorder is emerging among maturer women – “stressorexia”.  The condition affects those in their late 20s to 40s who are unwilling or unable to reduce their workload.  As they become drained, anxious and stressed-out, they stop eating properly, and can experience dramatic weight loss.

Meadow sent this new term to think about this week, and it is very interesting.  BUT after looking at the list, and if you know me or have seen me lately, I can honestly say I don’t have it.  But secretly wish I did!  🙂  Ha!  Anything to help me drop a few pounds would be nice!

  • What do you all think of working mothers today?
  • Are we trying to ‘have it all’ or just simply maintain to keep up with the increasing prices of today’s economy?
  • Do you work because you want to or because you have to?
